FAIRLAND, Ind. ΓΆβ?¬β?? Indianapolis Lutheran scored the final six points of the contest to survive a second-half comeback by Triton Central and held on for a 52-46 girls basketball victory on the road Nov. 18 to improve to 4-0.
The Saints, ranked fourth in Class A heading into action this week, tied the score at 46 with 4:42 remaining in the fourth quarter before going on a 6-0 run over the final three minutes.
Senior Andrea Johnson led a trio of Saints in double figures with 14 points. Junior Katie **** scored eight of her 12 points in the second half, while senior Lindsay Mayo hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first half in adding 11 points.
Despite being held under 10 points, senior Laura Bugher provided the muscle for Lutheran as she collected 10 first-half rebounds before finishing with 16. Bugher was limited to just one field goal in the game, which came after bringing down her final rebound of the first half and putting it back while getting fouled.
Senior center Kayleigh Dye and freshman Kelsey Larkey each finished in double figures with 13 and 12 points, respectively, for Triton Central (1-2). Each scored nine points in the second half to pace a furious Tiger comeback.
Lutheran increased a 28-21 halftime lead to 35-25 with 4:28 to go in the third quarter. The Tigers then kicked their offense into gear, outscoring the Saints 11-1 to tie the game at 36 after 24 minutes.
Triton Central scored the first two points of the fourth quarter and led by as many as four.
The Saints had raced out to a commanding 17-9 lead after one quarter after connecting on eight of their 11 field-goal attempts. Triton Central was able to keep up in the second stanza, though, to chip away at the lead going into halftime.
After playing two straight ranked opponents, the Tigers will get a break when they next Nov. 23 to Morristown to face the winless Yellow Jackets. Meanwhile, Lutheran will look to remain perfect when it hosts the Indiana School for the Deaf Nov. 22.
