FISHERS â??? Class 4A No. 14 Pike used a ridiculous 18-0 to turn a
nine-point deficit into a nine-point lead in the first half, then the
Red Devils (17-3) came from behind again in the second half Jan. 24 to
down host 4A No. 7 Hamilton Southeastern, 59-54.
The game featured three players bound next season for Division I
colleges: Pike guard Ashley Barlow (Notre Dame) and Southeastern guards
Beth Marshall (Northwestern) and Kylie York (Northern Illinois).
Marshall was quiet on the evening, but both Barlow and York had
profound impacts on the game.
The 5â??9â? Barlow could be accused of trying to do too much at times
on this night for Pike as she forced a lot of shots in struggling
through a 6-for-20 effort from the field. But she scored a game-high 24
points and delivered big-time when it counted, hitting 10 of 11 free
throws and making the play of the game on a sweet assist with just 57.8
seconds left.
The 5â??9â? York, on the other hand, nailed a 3-pointer on the gameâ??s
first possession and had a slightly better shooting night (5 for 13)
than Barlow en route to 12 points. But York managed only 2-of-10
accuracy from behind the 3-point line, and she couldnâ??t buy a bucket
down the stretch (0 for 4 from downtown in the fourth quarter) when the
Royals (16-3) needed her most.
More to come â?¦
