Colin's column: In one corner, 3A champ Fort Wayne Luers – in the other corner, South Bend Washington – rumBBBBLLLLLE!

The long
wait is finally over for me. After weeks of anticipation for the girls basketball
season to get under way, I was able to attend my first couple games this week.

On Nov.
14, I made the trek to Warren Central (home of the 1980 boys gymnastics state
champions) to see the Warriors take on Brebeuf and Miss Basketball favorite
TaShia Phillips. The game was highlighted by the worlds best high school
announcer. The pop, however, costs two dollars!

Two days
later, I once again talked my Franklin
College roommate into
helping me keep stats as we traveled to see Class 4A second-ranked Lawrence
North host Indianapolis Arlington. The adequately excited crowd and
enthusiastic pep band gave a hyped atmosphere that epitomizes Indiana basketball. Too bad the game was
**** ââ?¬â?? nearly 50 combined turnovers and slightly better than 50 percent
shooting from the foul line.

Thus, Im
hoping for some redemption this week when I make the journey to South Bend Washington
to see two preseason No. 1s square off the day after Thanksgiving. I am still
of the belief that South Bend Washington and defending 3A champ Fort Wayne
Luers are the two best teams in the state. Someone should take a picture of
Luers point guard MarKee Martin defending Washington star Skylar Diggins and
blow it up into a poster to promote the return of non-class basketball.

Also on my
schedule for the week is a big 2A tilt between Heritage Christian and Harding that
takes place in Fort Wayne
on Saturday.

This
weeks top games:

Tuesday:
Franklin
Central @ Columbus North: The Flashes head south in a battle of underrated 4A
teams.

Fishers @ Hamilton
Southeastern: The first of many contests between newly developed rivals.
Fishers spoiled coaching legend Jan Conners debut at Lafayette Jefferson a
couple weeks ago.

Wednesday:
Indianapolis
Chatard @ Indianapolis Cathedral: Naptowns top two private schools do battle
on Thanksgiving Eve.

Friday:
Fort Wayne
Luers @ South Bend Washington: How can I convey the proper sentiments for this
game in less than 100 words? Let me just say that I am so excited that Im
having trouble typing this because I thnnkfjth ttheajf
lkdsjfakldsjglkjdsalkgjdsklgjdslkagjdasgds!!!!!!1

Saturday:
Franklin
Central @ Brebeuf: Phillips & Co. host Franklin Central in the Flashes
second big game of the week.

Heritage
Christian @ Harding: This game would be a rematch of last years 2A state
finals had it not been for Tiffany Fishers incredible performance for Westview
in the semistate.

Random game of last week:
Westfield 46, Noblesville 40

Shamrocks
down Hamilton County rival Noblesville in a battle of
schools that, according to HA.coms girls cross country coordinator, will be
ranked first and second heading into next falls running season. Maggie
Bingham, Kristina Krasich, and Breanne Ehrman ââ?¬â?? three of two-time state champ Westfieldââ?¬â?¢s top four
runners ââ?¬â?? play ball in the winter.

Last weeks upsets:
None
