NOBLESVILLE ââ?¬â?? From
the opening tip Nov. 28, host Noblesville struggled to keep up with speedy Ben
Davis (4-0) at The Mill on November 28.
Thats because the Class 4A No. 12 Giants raced out to a
13-0 lead while displaying some great defense in a 59-43 victory. Noblesville
finally put its first points on the board with 5:07 left in the first quarter,
but the Millers would be doomed by 32 turnovers, including 20 in a disastrous
first half.
The Noblesville defense couldnt stop Alexandria Bentley
for a second. The Giants leading scorer poured in 26 points to lead all
scorers, while Amelia Vernon added 11.
The first quarter was all Ben Davis as the Giants quickly
jumped out to the 13-0 lead before the Millers scored on a 3-pointer from the
right wing by junior point guard Alyson Morris. Then the bottom fell out for
both teams offenses as coaches Kurt Gassensmith (Noblesville) and Stan Benge
(Ben Davis) must have really stressed defense before the start of the second
quarter, when Ben Davis scored four of the periods six points on the way to a
24-10 halftime lead.
Noblesville (2-3), which did manage a draw in the
rebounding department at 22, tightened its game a bit in the second half as the
Millers were outscored only 35-33 during the final two quarters. That included
a final period of play that was the polar opposite of the second stanza as some
great 3-point shooting by Lindsey Gysin, Molly Elkins, and Marianne Harmas
allowed Noblesville to win the quarter, 22-21.
Lindsey Gysin and Shay Arvin led Noblesville with 14
points apiece.
