Punahou Wins, Damien’s Bailey Dominates

A performance like the one that Damien??s Kama Bailey put on today usually relates to a victory.  Unfortunately the opponent was the #3 ranked Punahou Buff N Blu who put on the all-around team game on both sides of the ball.  Punahou defeated Damien 55-38 at a rare 2:00p game at Punahou??s Alexander Field.

The Buff N Blu improve to 6-2 and will most likely move up to #2 in the state rankings after Kahuku??s upset loss last night.  But their season will end next week against arch-rival Iolani as St Louis clinched the ILH title and the 1 berth into the HHSAA State Tournament.

Let’s get back to Bailey.  The stats ?? 29 carries, 313
yards,  5 touchdowns.  Touchdown runs were  34, 40, 60, 8, and 41 yards
respectively.  Oh, and he also caught one pass in between some water
and oxygen breaks.

The state??s leading rusher coming into the game, Bailey now has 1671 yards and 16 touchdowns.  He averages 9.8 yards per carry.

The Monarchs also seem to have found their quarterback in Anthony ??Bones? Tuitele.  He finished the game 8 of 17 for 149 yards and 2 INT??s.

But Punahou, as typical under Head Coach Kale Ane??s guidance, just gets better throughout the year.  Quarterback Cayman Shutter has emerged as the more consistent player going 16 of 21 for 292 yards, 1 INT, and 5 touchdowns.  He also ran for another score.

Favorite target was leading receiver Robbie Toma, who caught 4 of those TD strikes.

The running combo of Dalton Hilliard and Manti Te??o has proven to be the most dreaded  running combo in the state.  Te??o had a 63 yard touchdown run and Hilliard darted in from 5 yards out.

Damien plays PAC 5 in their ILH finale next Friday at Aloha Stadium.  Punahou will play Iolani in an early afternoon game at 3:00p
