Old, new faces lead Na Alii
With star players gone and ex-coach back at helm, King Kekaulike undergoing change

PUKALANI – Gone are the school’s first Football Bowl Subdivision scholarship recipient, a Division II state-champion head coach, and the 2009 Maui Interscholastic League rushing champion.
But things are looking pretty good for the King Kekaulike High School football program as some former family members have returned.
P.K. Higa was head coach for Na Alii in 1999 and 2000, was an assistant coach at the school for seven other seasons, ending in 2005, and is back at the helm. So are several former players in assistant positions, and former head coach Dennis Dias is also back on the staff.
Higa takes over for J.W. Kenton, who moved to Oahu after compiling a 23-18-1 record in four seasons, a run that began with the 2006 Division II state crown. The program also saw Charles Spencer, the MIL rushing leader last year with 858 yards in seven league games, transfer to Moanalua and standout defensive lineman Elvis Kamana-Matagi, who graduated in May, accept a scholarship to Utah State.
None of that is bothering Na Alii at this point.
