Action Rehab Progressive Physical Therapy- Tip of the Week

Hawaii Digital Sports Proud Sponsor Action Rehab Physical Therapy:

We are excited to announce our SPECIAL VIDEO PRESENTATION of the
ACTION REHAB PHYSICAL THERAPY Tip of the Week!
Scroll down below!

Click here to enter the Action Rehab Physical Therapy WEB SITE for more Information!

Action Rehab is a privately owned physical therapy clinic in Honolulu Hawaii that has been in business since 1989.  We offer a variety of progressive rehabilitation services that are customized to fit a patient’s indiviual needs.  Our staff of therapists specialize in various areas of rehablilitation, including orthopedic, sports, acute and chronic pain, auto/industrial, exercise and strengthening, educational and transitional programs.

Proper hydration is vital for everyone,
On average, 64
ounces (1.8L) of water a day is considered optimal, but the need increases with

exercise as well as other factors like heat and humidity.
·  Drink
approximately two cups (.5L) of water in the two hours before exercising, then
drink an
additional 1/2-3/4 cups (118-172 ml) for every 15 minutes of
activity.
·   Drink before you feel thirsty. Thirst is not an accurate
indicator of hydration
·  Water is the best fluid for staying hydrated
during exercise sessions of less than one hour. For
longer sessions,
carbohydrate solutions can be beneficial.
The best way to combat dehydration
is to keep a water bottle, hands-free system, or similar
portable water
container on hand and drink from it throughout the day.

Signs of
Dehydration:
·
¨ Watch for signs of dehydration, including fatigue, headache, nausea, and
light-headedness.
¨ Decreased physical performance, lack of
mental focus
¨ Headaches
¨ Chills/Shivering
¨ Thirst
¨
Dizziness
¨ Irritability

¨ Cramps
¨ Nausea

1. Get in shape first. It is critical that an
athlete have a significant level of fitness before training
in extreme
conditions. Developing a “fitness base” builds the athlete’s resistance for the
intensive
training of two-a-day practices.
Gradual exposure to heat on
consecutive days is a recommended strategy.

2. Hydrate before, during
and after training sessions. Water and dilute carbohydrate drinks
should be
served cool and should be made freely available, even during practice. Athletes
should
drink, at a minimum, every 15-20 minutes in the heat and at high
altitudes. Do not rely on thirst
as an indicator of when to drink.
Scheduling break times during each practice session, allow
athletes to
recover, cool down and hydrate.

3. Schedule training sessions during
cooler times of the day. It is a physiological fact that more
work can be
done in cooler and less humid conditions. This allows players to focus on sport

techniques and maintain proper mechanics, and reduces the exposure to
heat-related injury.
Practice schedules should be adjusted to accommodate
for the environmental conditions.

4. Monitor body weight. Small changes
in body weight can have a significant effect on heat-
related injuries.
Athletes should replace lost bodyweight before a subsequent training session.

5. Dress appropriately. Practice clothing should be loose fitting and
allow for effective air
circulation. Wicking materials can aid heat loss
through evaporation. Function over form should
be the rule of thumb.

7.Signs of dehydration. Pale Urine indicates you are hydrated, dark or
darker urine are signs of
dehydration.
Factors of dehydration:
·Heat

·Humidity
·Altitude
·Inadequate fluid consumption
·Caffeine and
alcohol consumption
·Tight fitting clothes that do not allow evaporation

Maximize recovery between training sessions by:
·Avoiding stress and
trying to relax
·Getting out of the sun as soon as possible
·Moving to a
cool environment immediately after practice
·Staying in the shade or air
conditioning when possible
·Lying down and resting for a short period of
time between training sessions
·Getting a high quality and quantity of sleep

·Eating balanced meals to replace lost fluids and energy used
·Avoiding
excessive clothing

PUNAHOU DYNASTY CONTINUES, 5TH TITLE IN A ROW

David Kawada – Digital Sports Hawaii

SEE COMPLETE PHOTO GALLERY FROM  www.jonbphotography.com

A 4-run 2nd inning was all that was needed for
the Buff N Blu to defeat ILH rival St. Louis 4-0 for the Wally Yonamine
Foundation HHSAA State Baseball Championship at Les Murakami Stadium on Saturday.  Punahou lays claim as the most dominant
baseball program in the state winning their 5th consecutive State
Championship, and the 11th overall, most in the State.

Iolani is 2nd with total state championships with
5.

Mid Pac and Iolani are the only other schools to win more
than 2 consecutive titles with 3 (1990-92 and 1996-98 respectively).

Pitching always proves to be the key for a state
championship and Reece Kiriu was in control for a complete game victory.  He allowed only 3 hits while striking out 8
batters and no walks.  Kiriu also went 2
for 3 at the plate.

Aside from the 2nd inning, St Louis ace Josh Saio pitched a good
game.  He struck out 7 and 4 of the total
7 hits he allowed were in that 2nd inning.

KAUAI IS THE INAUGURAL D-II STATE CHAMPIONS

David Kawada – Digital Sports Hawaii
dkawada@digitalsports.com

(CHECK BACK FOR PHOTO GALLERY)

In what may go down as one of the most dominant series of performances by a team in the State Tournament,  the Kauai Red Raiders made history Saturday night at Les Murakami Stadium.  The Red Raiders became the first Division II State Champion by defeating the St. Anthony Trojans, 1-0, in the Wally Yonamine Foundation HHSAA Division II State Baseball Championship game.

Pitcher Jordan Buster went the distance with one of his best performances allowing only 3 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 8 batters.

Kauai will also hold the honor of shutting out all 3 teams that they faced ( d. Kohala 10-0, d. Molokai 8-0).  This was a remarkable display of pitching and defense.

St. Anthony stayed toe to toe with the Red Raiders in this pitcher’s duel.  Michael Jahns also pitched a complete game scattering 8 hits and striking out 3.

Trent Allianic scored the only run in the top of the 1st inning on a RBI single by Schyler Arakaki.
