2005 Indiana All-Star girls basketball team announced

Indiana Miss Basketball Jodi Howell of Alexandria leads a group 14 girls that comprise The Indianapolis Star 2005 Indiana All-Star team.

Howell, the Purdue-bound stateâ??s leading scorer at 28.7 points per game, is the only 20-plus scorer to make the squad. But with five players at 6 feet or taller, the team will be significantly bigger than last yearâ??s squad.

Twelve of the girls have earned Division I scholarships, and eight will be playing their college ball within the stateâ??s borders in 2005 and beyond.

The All-Stars will be coached by Chestertonâ??s Jack Campbell, whose assistants are Haley Beauchamp (Hamilton Southeastern) and Marilyn Coddens (South Bend Washington). All three coaches provided input for selection of the team, with Game Director Pat Aikman making the final decision.

The team will report June 12 for practice at Greencastle before tackling annual all-star foe Kentucky twice — June 18 at Bowling Green and June 25 at Conseco Fieldhouse. A year ago, Indianaâ??s girls swept Kentucky for the ninth time, winning 66-53 in Owensboro and 66-60 at Conseco.

Balanced team effort leads North girls to win in North/South Indiana All-Star Classic

Hamilton Southeasternâ??s Kahla Roudebush led four scorers in double figures as the South easily dispatched the North, 91-72, in the 2005 North/South Indiana All-Star Classic girls basketball game April 17 at Plymouth High School.

Roudebush, a 5â??8â? forward headed to Cincinnati, hit 6 of 10 shots from the field for 13 points in helping the South pull away from a 45-39 halftime lead.

The other double-figure scorers for the South, coached by Castleâ??s Wayne Allen, all finished with 11 points. They were:

?· Corydonâ??s Dana Beaven (Bellarmine)

?· North Harrisonâ??s Tara Miller (Indiana)

?· Richmondâ??s Angela Willis (Roane State)

Alexandriaâ??s Jodi Howell, Indianaâ??s Miss basketball, was the only North player to get to double figures as the 6-foot guard bound for Purdue hit 4 of 6 from the floor and 1 of 3 free throws. Three North players finished with 8 points for coach Dave Cox of Plymouth. They were:

?· South Bend St. Josephâ??s Aimee Litka (Valparaiso)

?· Marionâ??s Tanika Mays (IUPUI)

?· South Bend Rileyâ??s Kendra Reynolds (Indiana State)

Meanwhile, Indianapolis Cathedral’s Kimberly Roberson (Indiana) posted a solid all-around game with nine points, seven rebounds and five steals.

The North/South Indiana Classic was sponsored by Hoosier Basketball Magazine, Plymouth High School, and Pacesetter Sports of Terre Haute. The Classic started 13 years ago largely through the efforts of a trio of Richmond men â??? Frank Kovaleski, the high school athletic director; George Griffith, the high school boys basketball coach; and Bob VanPelt, a Richmond businessman â??? along with Garry Donna, publisher of Hoosier Basketball Magazine.
