Kaimuki In Five Over Kaiser In Girls Varsity Volleyball, 25-19, 25-18, 24-26, 15-25, 15-13

After the Bulldogs won the second game in pretty convincing fashion, this reporter thought it was over. The Bulldogs just had too much firepower up front for the Cougars to keep pace.

Then, the momentum started to switch a bit in the third game with the Cougars pulling out a great comeback win, 26-24.

The fourth game was all Cougars as they overwhelmed the Bulldogs 25-15.

The fifth game was a real nailbiter with ties at 10, 11, 12 and 13. The Bulldogs then played a couple of good points to win it 15-13. A super match and fun for all who attended!

The Lancers had a few bursts of strong play but in the end it was the Raiders who were more consistent. The Raiders, who just returned from the Durango Volleyball Classic, also had the size and the power to pretty much keep control of the match throughout. The Raiders have an uncharacteristic amount of size this year which matches up well with a very quick back court.

The match was over in two games, each by a score of 25-16 with the Raiders never seemingly in danger. The total time for the match was about one hour.

‘Iolani Invitational Cross Country Meet at Wheeler Air Force Base

The ‘Iolani Invitational follows the tradition at ‘Iolani of creating tournaments that bring in top notch talent to test and inspire Hawaii’s athletes to be their best.

Today’s races were run at Wheeler Air Force base. The course was very flat, almost all grass, with hot, humid conditions. The times were fast. I wonder what the times would have been like if the weather had been more conducive.

In the first race, the girls open 3 mile, Dana Hills showed this in a big way taking the 1-6 places, with number 8 thrown in for good measure for a perfect 15 score. Punahou and Mililani had 57 and 94 points, respectively.

The boys open, also at 3 miles, followed with Laguna Beach pulling off the same feat as they captured 1-6 for another perfect score of 15. Kamehameha and ‘Iolani followed with 56 and 87 points.

In the girls varsity race, Dana Hills had some competition from another mainland team in Clovis, but in the end it was Dana Hills with a very low score of 27 over Clovis at 64 and Mililani at 99.

Laguna Beach dominated in the boys varsity race with a very good score of 34, followed by ‘Iolani at 59 and Kamehameha at 98.

In the girls intermediate race, host ‘Iolani edged out Rivera Middle School with a score of 58 to Rivera’s 69. Kamehameha was third with 88 points. This race was won by Dakota Grossman of Maui in a time of 12:32.80, the only race won by a local athlete.

The boys intermediate race was won by Rivera Middle School with 33 points. Kamehameha had 64, while HBA had 107 which was good for third.

KEAAU — The Keaau High football
team made things uneventful on Friday night. The Cougars ran the ball. Hilo
couldn’t stop it. And the host team walked off with a win.

Behind a
running game that resembled a massive boulder rolling downhill, Keaau toppled
Hilo 26-6 in a Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division I game at the
Cougars’ stadium.

Behind a running game that resembled a massive boulder rolling downhill, Keaau
toppled Hilo 26-6 in a Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division I game at
the Cougars’ stadium.

About 600 rain-soaked fans watched senior quarterback Kona Pomroy score three
first-half touchdowns to power the Cougars (2-1 BIIF Division I, 2-3 overall)
over the Vikings (0-3, 0-4).
